More than 1,360 independent school business officers, heads of school, and leaders in operational areas from human resources to technology to facilities, along with corporate sponsors and 120 exhibitors whose products support NBOA members' work, converged on Nashville's Gaylord Opryland resort last week for NBOA's biggest-ever Annual Meeting

Session handouts are available for attendees on the Annual Meeting website. Recordings of all sessions, along with executive summaries of select sessions and videos of keynote presentations, will be available to attendees in early April.

Rhonda Durham (photo at top), an independent school teacher, admissions director and head of school before becoming the ISAS executive director, summarized business officers' work aptly in her remarks at the Tuesday Awards Luncheon. “Your work is rewarding — and hard. Stay tight in your forged connections! Continue to count on each other for thoughtful advice, steadfast encouragement, motivating insights, and shared discoveries. YOU keep giving outstanding support to independent schools.”

More feedback from meeting attendees is shared below.

“Thank you to you and your awesome crew for such a great conference last week. I always come away from NBOA with ideas, renewed energy and a general overall feeling of satisfaction that comes with spending time with peers and friends. This year was no exception.”
Sunday night's Opening Reception reacquainted old friends amid a live country music performance on the Gaylord Opryland Delta Island.
“As a first-time attendee, I found the entire NBOA conference to be first class. Great content, outstanding keynotes and motivational speakers, superb venue.”
Entrepreneur Josh Linkner delivered a high-energy keynote presentation on how organizations can harness innovation to remain competitive.
"I want to tell you how much I enjoyed the 2018 NBOA Annual Meeting in Nashville. I haven't stopped talking about it!"
More than 50 educational sessions covered  topics in six broad tracks: accounting, finance and tax; business operations; facilities and information technology; human resources; leadership and governance; and risk management. There were also 45 short "Goldmine" sessions.
"The Annual Meeting was fantastic, one of the best I can recall. I'm looking forward to Riding the Waves of Change in San Diego" [at the 2019 NBOA Annual Meeting].
Tuesday's Cohort Continental Breakfast allowed attendees to connect with peers who have similar job duties, school missions or communities serviced. Facilitated special interest group meetings also brought together like-minded professionals in areas such as boarding schools and information technology.
"It was delightful and humbling all at the same time to have a couple minutes to speak with [Diana Nyad]. What an amazing story and what a pleasant and personable speaker."
Swimmer Diana Nyad recounted her determined and fiercely resilient journey to being the first person to swim from Havana, Cuba to Key West -- at the age of 64.
“My entire team has returned energized and excited about all of the new ideas and information they were exposed to, and they loved having the opportunity to speak to so many other school business professionals.”
Many attendees started their Tuesday with one of two "get fit" activities at the Gaylord: a fun run/walk (bright orange athletic jerseys for participants, with support from Building Solutions) and yoga (yoga mats for all, with support from Liebert Cassidy Whitmore).
