Broadway’s Spotlight Shines on Business Leaders at the 2025 NBOA Annual Meeting

Camaraderie and the common good defined the largest in-person conference of independent school business professionals to date.

Last week, in the heart of New York City’s Theater District, where ticket holders rounded the blocks outside of Broadway’s most popular theaters, more than 1,400 business leaders in the independent school community gathered at the 2025 NBOA Annual Meeting to soak up insights and connect with their peers. 

A lively opening reception on Sunday night featured a lion and dragon dance and varied cuisines from the city, as long-time colleagues caught up and new professional friendships were forged.

Monday’s keynote speaker Kyle Scheele had the audience rolling as he shared his tips for cultivating new ideas before sessions in every area of school business operations got underway. Both keynote speakers greeted attendees after their talks.

On Tuesday, the 2025 recipient of the Ken White Distinguished Business Officer Award, Sandi Pierce, urged attendees to give themselves permission to change their minds, think differently, grow and evolve in their roles, as the needs of school in finance, HR, risk management and other areas continue to evolve.

Tuesday’s keynote speaker Crystal Washington shared her take on the latest technology and how school leaders can adapt.

Deep dives, concurrent sessions and lightning-fast goldmine rounds offered new ideas and essential knowledge for every role in the business office.

The Business Solutions Showcase, this year open on Monday and Tuesday, was packed, with the short talks delivered at the Solutions Theatre often overflowing with attendees.

And this year, participants enjoyed assembling literacy kits for New York City students in conjunction with Good+Foundation’s efforts to support families in the area. Attendees participating in NBOA Gives Back donated to the Good+Foundation, and anyone can still do so.
