I firmly believe that change is healthy for organizations. Sometimes change is due to external factors from the environment (economy, demographic changes, etc.), and sometimes it comes internally (change in leadership, retirements, promotions, etc.). Regardless of the forces behind it, change is inevitable.
During the past several months, the NBOA staff has experienced internal changes that have allowed us to bring unique new talents and insights to the association staff, as well as to recognize and advance existing staff for their outstanding service and contributions.
I’m pleased to welcome Dan Woltman, CAE, as NBOA’s vice president, membership and marketing. Dan comes to NBOA from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), where he held senior leadership roles in marketing, membership and customer support. Most recently, as senior director of membership and business development, his work included the restructuring and relaunching of CASE’s membership model; market research and product development in support of CASE’s strategic plan; and the development of a global analytics plan. At NBOA, Dan oversees membership recruitment and retention activities; marketing of all programs, products and services; and — most importantly — ensuring that your experience with NBOA at all levels is positive and professionally rewarding.
As NBOA has expanded the breadth and depth of our program offerings, we have enhanced our professional development staff by adding a new position — manager, professional development programs — and hiring Erin Grady to fill it. Erin comes to NBOA from the American Association for Clinical Chemistry, where she ran board examinations, administered an in-house continuing education accreditation program, and helped to produce webinars and other educational products.
At the same time, several familiar faces on the NBOA staff have taken on new responsibilities.
Jennifer Hillen, who prior to joining us in 2017 was associate director for finance and operations at the Harpeth Hall School in Nashville, is now vice president, professional development and business affairs. In her new role, Jennifer has oversight of all professional development offerings and remains a liaison to the controller community on important accounting and tax issues.
Mary Kay Markunas, another NBOA staff member with previous significant independent school experience, has been promoted to director, member resources and research. Her work includes oversight of the association’s new data collection platform, BIIS, providing NBOA member schools with analysis and reports to support data-driven decision-making on your most critical business and finance decisions.
Finally, Melissa Zinder is now NBOA’s senior manager, marketing and member engagement, following several successful years supporting the association’s social media efforts. In her new role, Melissa will leverage multiple communications platforms to help ensure that NBOA member schools take advantage of all NBOA programs, services and member benefits.
As I recently shared with the NBOA Board of Directors, healthy organizations are designed to sustain a variety of changes. Thanks to your support, NBOA is a healthy organization. We will continue to fulfill our mission and serve your schools for decades to come. Please join me in welcoming our new staff members and congratulating staff who have demonstrated outstanding service to the association and are promoted to new roles.
