Title: Director of Finance
School: The American International School of Muscat
Superpower: Symbol of stability: Since the school’s establishment in 1998, Dutia has played an extraordinary role in the school’s financial and operational success. His business sense and people skills have led the school through five phases of capital development over 26 years. “In an era marked by uncertainties, Hemant's leadership embodies hope and stability,” said Kevin Schafer, chief human resources officer at The American International School of Muscat (TAISM).
Global connector: Dutia’s responsibilities “extend beyond the conventional scope of a director of finance, significantly impacting the international and Omani business communities,” said Schafer. Dutia is essential in liaising with the finance officer at the U.S. Embassy in Muscat, which has led to the enrollment of 85 embassy students. He also maintains regular contact with the Office of Overseas Schools at the U.S. Department of State to ensure compliance with international standards. Locally, Dutia collaborates with finance leaders from other international schools in Oman, bank officials and local business leaders.
He fosters a sense of belonging and dignity among diverse cultures and viewpoints, aligning closely with our mission to cultivate a better, more understanding world for future generations.
Relationship builder: Dutia excels in building relationships “based on respect and understanding, which has notably enhanced the institution's reputation,” according to Schafer. “He fosters a sense of belonging and dignity among diverse cultures and viewpoints, aligning closely with our mission to cultivate a better, more understanding world for future generations.”
Problem-solver: Dutia’s strength lies in his ability to listen and devise solutions to complex problems. “His strategies and insights are widely applicable, offering guidance and inspiration to other international schools,” said Schafer.
