The Will J. Hancock Unsung Hero Award is given to business officers who have made extraordinary contributions to their schools and exemplify exceptional integrity, knowledge and motivation. At the end of each school year, new Unsung Heroes receive their award from their head of school, often at a significant school occasion such as a board meeting or an all-school ceremony. What makes these Unsung Heroes so special? The highlights below come straight from their colleagues' nominations.

Superpower: Accountability and integrity: Upholding "the highest ethical standards," Iveth Bosmediano promotes integrity and accountability in all financial dealings while ensuring regulatory compliance, according to Lili Le Fevre, director of advancement & communications at The Sacred Heart School of Montreal. Bosmediano’s exceptional “work ethic, availability and sound judgment” have earned her high respect from the board. Auditors also commend her organizational skills and the clarity and completeness of her reports, as noted by her nominator.
Financial prowess: Bosmediano demonstrates exceptional financial expertise in managing the school’s budget and strategic financial planning. Her budgeting is described as “precise,” and she has an ability to “address financial challenges with creativity and innovation,” according to Le Fevre. Her financial acumen resulted in significant growth in 2019, and during COVID, she managed finances meticulously, ensuring the school emerged from the pandemic with a positive balance sheet.
Policies guru: Bosmediano has implemented policies and procedures that have driven the school’s financial and operational success, including overseeing a new employee handbook and establishing a facilities rental policy. She leads the school’s risk management team, and this past year, she worked tirelessly with the school’s insurance provider to enhance school safety and community wellbeing.
Global leader: Bosmediano is leader of the Quebec Association of Independent Schools’ business officers group and is a sought-after member within the Canadian Accredited Independent Schools network. Additionally, she holds “the upmost respect” within the global Network of Sacred Heart Schools.
