The Will J. Hancock Unsung Hero Award is given to business officers who have made extraordinary contributions to their schools and exemplify exceptional integrity, knowledge and motivation. At the end of each school year, new Unsung Heroes receive their award from their head of school, often at a significant school occasion such as a board meeting or an all-school ceremony. What makes these Unsung Heroes so special? The highlights below come straight from their colleagues' nominations.

Title: Chief Financial and Operating Officer

School: formerly at The Bolles School, Jacksonville, Florida; currently at Pine Crest School, Boca Raton and Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Years in position at Bolles: 9

Years in an independent school business office: 23

Superpower: Change agent. Greene increased Bolles' reserves 11 fold; refinanced the school's debt, saving several million dollars; improved the facility condition index from poor to great; remodeled multiple areas and built several new buildings without campaign dollars, including a treehouse classroom for lower school students.

Risk guru: "Long before the prolonged school violence crisis was a substantiated concern, [Greene] put safety and security at the forefront. She invested in secure fencing, walls, welcome centers, security guards and annual incident/safety training for every single one of Bolles’ 200+ employees." She also successfully guided the school through several hurricanes. When a nearby river began to intrude onto historic campus bluffs, Greene devised a creative solution to shore them up.

Forward-facing: Greene "is well spoken, juggles multiple tasks and responsibilities effortlessly, represents the school well in any environment, is direct and respected by her peers."

Forward-thinking: "She is growth-focused and knows how to make that happen in fiscally responsible ways."
