(From SHRM) Many organizations underestimate the impact of divisive political discussions. Bernadette Jones, SHRM-SCP, emphasizes being proactive to prevent incivility. She shared four strategies at SHRM24:
- Understand the Challenge: Assess current needs and past handling of discord to guide cultural discussions.
- Guide the Discussion: Gain leadership support with data, emphasizing the business case for civility.
- Set Boundaries: Establish and communicate clear policies, including acceptable and respectful conduct.
- Take Action: HR should feel empowered to implement changes, continually re-evaluating policies to maintain a respectful workplace.
