(from the Bolton Blog) Mass shootings in the U.S. have tripled since 2011, posing a growing threat to school campuses. While no amount of preparation can predict what an active shooter might do, schools can take a range of proactive measures to reduce the potential for an incident and better prepare and protect the campus should an incident occur. Bolton & Company, an insurance broker and risk management firm with many independent school clients, recommends focusing on the campus's physical and psychologicall well-being, including nurturing and sustaining positive school climates, building support networks beyond campus boundaries, and addressing and preventing negative behaviors such as bullying (including cyberbullying).
Help exists at a number of resources including those from StopBullying.gov, the National Crime Prevention Council, the Suicide Prevention Resource Center and SCN Homeland Security & Preparedness Training Center.
