(from Inside Higher Ed) A new app called Esslo provides feedback on college essays, some say in a way similar to what college counselors would provide. Rather than writing the essay, it critiques an existing essay with line-by-line feedback. For every paid version purchased, the founders say they will offer a Title I student (at a school with fewer resources) a paid version for free.
