(from Wired) Some high school and college students in even the most rigorous STEM-related classes are cheating by way of an artificial intelligence program called Wolfram/Alpha, said to be faster than a tutor, more reliable than copying off friends, and much easier than actually solving complex equations. Difficult to trace, Wolfram/Alpha can provide answers as well as the steps for reaching them, enabling students to "show their work." It uses natural language processing technology to cross-reference challenges against a huge library of datasets covering information from chemical compounds to AP calculus to human genes.
