(from Canadian Bureau for International Education) In 2018, Canada enrolled 572,415 international students, a 16 percent increase over 2017 in which international student numbers grew by 20 percent. “Our research shows that international students choose Canada because of the quality of the Canadian education system and our reputation as a safe and tolerant country. This reputation is especially appealing at present given current geopolitical realities,” said Larissa Bezo, President and CEO of CBIE. The new data also reveal that India surpassed China as the top sender of international students in 2018, recording an increase of 40 percent over 2017. China now sits in second place, recording 2 percent growth. South Korea grew 5 percent and remains a distant third.
