Benchmarking by Student Satisfaction

Aug 23, 2018, 5:25 PM

(from ICEF Monitor) Rather than setting enrollment targets, the New Zealand education ministry will measure success in international student education by the students' satisfaction. The change comes with a new plan to maximize the social and cultural benefits of international education in addition to its economic value. “It’s a quality proposition, not a numbers game," said Education Minister Chris Hipkins explained. “Sometimes if you focus just on numbers and economic values, it tends to cloud everything else." The goals include some economic measures:

  • International student satisfaction rates of 92–95 percent by 2025 and 94–97 percent by 2030
  • Economic value of the sector reaching NZD $6 billion (US$4 billion) by 2025
  • Double the uptake of education pathways embarked on by international students in New Zealand By 2030
  • More economic value from the sector from across all regions
  • More domestic students studying abroad
