(from the New York Times) Confusion over actual college costs and concerns over mounting student loans have inspired bipartisan legislation — three bills, in fact — aimed at making the cost of higher education more clear to students before they apply to a school, before they select a school and while they're working toward a degree. Each law, co-sponsored by Senators Al Franken, a Minnesota Democrat, and Charles Grassley, an Iowa Republican, would impose new rules on colleges and universities. The bills are the Net Price Calculator Improvement Act, the Understanding the True Cost of College Act and the Know Before You Owe Act (the latter is also co-sponsored by Senator Joni Ernst, another Iowa Republican).
