(from KQED News) Change is about loss, says psychologist Robert Evans, in delivering the keynote speech at the Building Learning Communities conference in Boston recently. “Resistance to change is normal and necessary,” he said. But often educators — by nature — aren't skilled at adult conflict. For successful transitions, leaders need to be clear on what they want, and they need to be flexible. Leaders should tell teachers they are asking to change what, how and why. The latter being most important for motivation. They should also let teachers know they are cared for and that their work is valued.
