Charitable Giving Expected to Return to Pre-Pandemic Patterns

May 20, 2021, 1:57 PM

(From Chronicle of Philanthropy) Though overall giving increased by as much as 5.2% from the previous year, most nonprofits saw fundraising revenue drop 5 to 10 percent as the lion’s share of giving went to organizations with already-robust fundraising totals and whose work was directly related to the effects of the pandemic, according to to a new report from GivingTuesday. However, as the pandemic recedes in severity and local economies begin to bounce back, the authors of the report expect smaller nonprofits to see their fundraising levels go back to what they were before the crisis. They recommend that nonprofits maintain contact with new 2020 donors and promote recurring donations to keep new donors in the fold.
