(from EdSurge) Google has announced a new search feature where students can type the name of a four-year college or university and get information regarding admissions, costs, students and more. The move builds on the tech giant's existing work around education information and could potentially disrupt more traditional methods of providing prospective students with such information, such as search tools from The College Board. LinkedIn has also moved into the education space by allowing users to view institutional pages for colleges and universities to gain insights such as where graduates work.
For now, there are no known plans to extend these efforts to the K-12 space. There is speculation, however, that they could lead to more robust profiles for schools that provide additional data to the technology firms or pay for greater advertising.
