(From Bloomberg) The FDA has given its authorization for the first COVID-19 breath test. The device, known as the InspectIR COVID-19 Breathalyzer, is about the size of a piece of carry-on luggage and can be used in medical offices and mobile testing sites, the FDA said. The breathalyzer’s sensitivity is comparable to that of rapid antigen tests, studies show.
(From The Washington Post) Researchers are in the early stages of seeing if a nasal spray can be effective at preventing symptomatic cases of COVID-19. Early studies in mice have shown that a protein-based nasal spray may help stop the virus from infecting cells. Experts are quick to point out that there is not enough evidence yet that this will work in humans or become widely available, but this research could help lead to better preventive treatments sometime in the future.
