COVID-19 Update: Commonfund Webinar: Stewarding Endowments through the COVID-19 Crisis

(From NBOA) On April 23, Commonfund president Tim Yates presented with Steve Snyder, managing director, via webinar on independent school enrollment considerations in light of COVID-19. During the presentation, Yates and Snyder discussed challenges within the current market environment and the impact on schools’ asset allocation, spending policies, fundraising and liquidity needs.

“Once you go through a thoughtful and strategic assessment of each of these considerations, you’ll want to assess policy,” said Snyder. “The point is: Changes to strategic, long-term asset policies should be reflective of the next 20 years – not the past 20 days. It should be driven by dynamics or changes in dynamics at your school and not necessarily a view on the capital markets. History has certainly not been kind to those who have changed course in the midst of prior crises, and market timing these things can be very difficult.”
