(from Education Dive) Biggest indicators' of student success after college graduation? Their relationships with faculty, staff and peers; their ability to work autonomously; and their capacity to handle cognitive complexity, according to the analysis of more than 2 million data points by IBM's Watson Analytics program at Southern Connecticut State University. The findings debunk common assumptions that the greatest impact on student success comes from "pre-college" experiences or factors like demographics, test scores and prior academic development.
The university has put some of the findings to use. For example, to better assist first-generation students, the school responded by creating a dormitory exclusively for them and providing them with faculty and staff liaisons who also had been first-generation college students.
