(From American Enterprise Institute) New data from the U.S. Department of Education points to a decrease in homeschooling enrollment for the first time in 20 years, from 1.8 to 1.7 million between 2012 and 2016. White and rural families saw the largest decline in homeschooling. Meanwhile, homeschooling is growing more racially diverse. Hispanics showed a statistically significant surge from 15% of total homeschoolers in 2012 to 26%. Should the numbers hold up, they could portend a picture of homeschooling that is smaller and less white, education experts suggest.
