Expect more state laws relating to workplace issues such as parental leave, pay equity and predictable scheduling in 2017, say employment attorneys. Trendsetters include New York and Washington, D.C., which approved expansive paid leave laws in 2016, along with three states that implemented pay equity laws. Less regulation is expected at the federal level as GOP-rule lawmakers take on the Affordable Care Act, the FLSA overtime rule and the retirement plan "fiduciary standard." Schools and other employers should prepare to revise or review even while focusing on compliance.
