EPA Funds Lead Pipe Removal Projects

(From Education Week) The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency finalized a rule requiring water systems to remove all lead pipes within 10 years and take action if water samples exceed 10 parts per billion of lead. The agency is also offering $35 million in grants for water systems, nonprofits and local governments to help remove lead pipes. However, schools are not mandated to conduct independent lead testing or replace outdated water fixtures unless they operate their own water systems, such as wells.
