Presidents of U.S. private colleges averaged $498,927 in compensation for the 2014 calendar year, according to data just released by The Chronicle of Higher Education. Among more than 600 private colleges studied, pay for 39 presidents surpassed the million-dollar mark. An online tool shows total compensation as well as pay components for individual colleges and can be sorted by year, compensation level and more going back to 2008.
