Expect More E-Sports at Schools

(From Huffpost) With over 100 colleges offering varsity esports programs and more joining each year, the emphasis on competitive gaming is getting schools to think about how they open more doors for students of all genders and backgrounds. Hathaway Brown School, a private PS-12 school in Shaker Heights, Ohio, recently became the first U.S. all-girls school to launch a varsity esports program. The 10-person team competed against local schools and libraries from varying backgrounds. When designing the program, “there was an imperative for us to be involved with it from an early outset, so that we could ensure there was equity across implementations,” said J. Collins, esports coach at Hathaway Brown.
