FAFSA Delays Upend College Admissions

(From The Hill)  The Department of Education acknowledged Thursday that it’s been a “challenging year” for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) process. Out of the FAFSA applications, 1.2 million need corrections from students or contributors, mainly needing signatures. Additionally, 700,000 forms have asset contribution errors, and 1.2 million processed with wrong tax data. Colleges are now grappling with balancing speed and accuracy in aid distribution and admissions decisions, as most schools’ dates are April 15 or May 1. Colleges can push back those deadlines, though that will complicate budget forecasting in the fall.
