Feds Expected to Step up I-9 Enforcement

(from SHRM) The federal agency charged with overseeing and enforcing immigration law is expected to dramatically expand its worksite investigations focused on I-9 compliance. Thomas Homan, acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcememt, said the agency intends to double-down on eliminating the "magnet" of U.S. jobs, which many consider a driving factor in illegal immgration. Employers found not in compliance with I-9 regulations could face civil fines and criminal penalties, among other damages. SHRM has an online course that can help HR professionals ensure their readiness for a worksite audit.
