(from the Boston Business Journal) The first law suit for equal pay under Massachusetts' new Equal Pay Act has been brought by Boston Symphony Orchestra’s top flutist. She is accusing the organization of violating the law by paying her substantially less than her closest male counterpart in the orchestra. In the lawsuit, Rowe said she is paid three-quarters what the BSO’s principal oboist is paid — even though they both lead woodwind sections as endowed chairs, both play with the Boston Symphony Chamber Players, and sit next to each other. The suit does not specify how much Rowe is paid.
