(from Wired) Free Facial-Rec in Schools? Maybe Not? The tool, called SAFR and available from online streaming giant RealNetworks, is designed to help schools more accurately monitor who enters their facilities. Concerns about this and other facial recognition tools, however, have to do with flaws including findings that it often misidentifies black people and women at higher rates than white men. The issue of increased surveillance of kids is particularly fraught.
