(from Accounting WEB) Reputational damage is a rising concern for a wide variety of organizations thanks to a confluence of factors including data use in online communications. The European Union's new General Data Protection Regulation rule, which has broadly concerned independent schools, is a case in point. GDPR essentially provides individuals with the "right to be forgotten," and it has underscored the importance overall of ensuring that website visitors and email recipients have clear ways to opt in, if they want more information, or to opt out if they don't want further information.
Another evolving reputation risk-management trend involves review sites. Schools should keep an eye on local and national consumer-driven "ranking" sites like Yelp and Glassdoor. Determine if reviews are legitimate, or if they should be flagged for being inappropriate or inaccurage. Consider encouraging families and staff to write actual review to maintain a positive impression.
