(from NPR) As unemployment falls and fewer people look for jobs, recruiters are using increasingly aggressive and innovative approaches to get the attention of potential job candidates. One such approach involves geofencing. Using GPS and radio frequency identification, geofencing sets up a virtual, wireless perimeter — for instance, around an event, a zip code or a neighborhood — so that people in that area receive messages on their mobile devices. A Florida hospital recruitment director reported great success using geofencing to attract highly specialized nurse practitioners, including in some cases by targeting them as they went to work at rival hospitals.
