Handling Election Year Conflicts in Schools

Jul 16, 2024, 9:13 AM

(from AKCG--Public Relations Counselors) A school’s reputation rests on trust, goodwill and relationships with individual families and stakeholders. Today’s political landscape is one that invites polarization, villainization or, at best, defensiveness. With highly informed, engaged and passionate stakeholders, these themes inevitably bleed into our independent school communities. School leaders need to be aware of any engagements that could be read as coded politically and be prepared to act.

  • Ask, “how does this topic or issue align with our school’s mission?”
  • Rather than guessing what our community wants to hear from us, consider what they need to hear from us.
  • Wean ourselves off letters.
