(From The New York Times) Schools across the country are facing a wave of violent threats in the weeks following the devastating shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. In New York, Brooklyn Friends School, the Berkeley Carroll School and the United Nations International School in Manhattan are among the independent schools identified. After the hoax directed at Berkeley Carroll, the school increased security and allowed students to attend remotely for several days.
Authorities believe the threats are made by a person who finds the names of students at a school by searching Instagram for children with public accounts and then poses as the student online to make threats against the school. Authorities say the threat-maker targets high-profile schools to gain attention but does not appear to have any intention of following through, according to a senior law enforcement official.
