(From the Chronicle of Higher Education) Chegg, a popular homework help site, is no longer providing student information to colleges conducting honor-code investigations through the platform. The website, which as of August reported 5.3 million subscribers, started as a textbook rental service but has since expanded to include online tutoring. While critics said the site can be helpful for students seeking tutoring, they argue many students are misusing it to pass off another person’s work as their own.
Chegg says that the due to student privacy concerns, it will now only provide the date and time stamps of when questions and solutions are posted. Previously, Chegg had provided information on suspected cheaters to colleges and universities upon request, according to three faculty members at different institutions told The Chronicle.
