(from Inside Higher Ed) Mount Holyoke, Barnard, Wellesley, Mills and most recently Spelman College are among the women's colleges to adopt admissions policies under which they will extend admissions policies to students who live and self-identify as women, regardless of their gender assignment at birth. But of the nation's four all-male colleges (excluding seminaries), only one so far will admit transgender students. Saint John's University in Minnesota announced the change last November. The school works closely with the nearby all-women's College of Saint Benedict, which has a similar policy.
One men's college where the topic appears to be under consideration is Morehouse, adjacent to Spelman. In a statement, the school wrote: "We applaud our sisters at Spelman College for their efforts to address the challenging and sensitive matter of gender identification.... We will work closely with our faculty, students, staff, alumni and Board of Trustees to create a policy that is in line with the mission of our college."
