(from GuideStar) GuideStar has published its latest large-scale report on nonprofit compensation, drawing data from FY17 from nearly 136,000 positions and nearly 97,000 nonprofits with annual revenues of $200,000 or more. The analysis covers gender, subject area, state and metro area, and change in compensation among incumbent positions. Some highlights:

  • CEO compensation hikes approached pre-recession levels for the first time in six years, averaging 4 percent or more.
  • The proportion of women CEOs increased, especially among organizations with budgets between $25 million and $50 million.
  • However, women CEOs continue to be paid less than men. The gap for median pay was as high as 21 percent at organizations with budgets above $50 million, and as low as 7 percent at the smallest organizations ($250,000 or less).
