Independent School Endowments Rebound with 9.2% Average Return

(From Institutional Investor) Endowment performance for independent schools rebounded in the last fiscal year, with an average return of 9.2 percent in fiscal year 2022-2023, according to the just-released Commonfund Study of Independent School Endowments. This marks a significant improvement from the 11.3% loss in 2022. Larger endowments tended to have higher allocations to alternative investments. The gains also boosted three-year average returns to 7.1%. However, ten-year average returns fell to 6.7%, partly due to the exclusion of 2022's low performance from the calculation.
