International Students Pull Back

Mar 13, 2017, 1:11 PM

Applications from international students have declined at nearly 40 percent of U.S. colleges amid perceptions of difficulties getting visas and a less-welcoming climate under the Trump Administration, according to a survey of more than 250 schools. Applications from Middle Eastern countries are down most; many schools also reported drop-offs in applications from China and India, the two biggest senders of international students to the U.S. As with many independent boarding schools, colleges and universities often base their financial projections in part on expected increases in enrollment from full-pay international students.
