(from SHRM) A majority of workplaces are using biometric authentication technology, often opting for the likes of facial and voice recognition over good old-fashioned passwords, which are considered more vulnerable to compromise. Most commonly used on corporate smartphones and other devices are fingerprint scanners (57 percent of organizations), followed by facial recognition, hand geometry recognition, iris scanning, voice recognition and palm-vein recognition. However, biometrics can also be stolen. For instance, more than 5.6 million employees' fingerprints on file were compromised in a 2015 data breach at the Office of Personnel Management.
