(from the 74 Million) Moving beyond traditional test scores, public schools in Nevada are now also measuring and sharing data about school climate, which includes how safe, engaged, inclusive and equitable schools are. The state developed a new tool, which is now available on the Nevada Department of Education website. The tool takes data from annual student surveys and puts the information online in a searchable form, so parents and teachers can compare stats to the experiences of specific students and gauge whether a school they may be considering provides an environment conducive to learning. The department wanted to “put the data back in the hands of the people we took it from,” said Amber Reid, a social worker with the department.
