(From Inside Higher Ed) The number of colleges offering scholarships related to mental health have ballooned in recent years, according to ScholarshipOwl, an online platform that hosts scholarships. The scholarships range in eligibility and criteria: Some are only for students currently being treated for a diagnosed mental health condition, while others don’t require a medical diagnosis but ask students to write an essay about their own mental health struggles. Experts say such scholarships can be particularly useful because students with mental health needs may face unique financial barriers when attending college, and incur costs related to things like therapy, doctor’s appointments, lab tests and medication.
