(From ICEF Monitor) It is now increasingly common for American colleges to partner with agents as part of a multifaceted recruitment strategy, reflecting a similar rise in student-agent working relationships among international students. Responses to the 2017/18 Admissions Trends Survey conducted by the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) indicate that over a third (36%) of American colleges are using commission-based agents to recruit international students. Of those colleges, 75% consider agents important to their recruitment efforts.
Independent high schools still represent the vast majority of international student enrollment in the US, and NACA notes that 72% of respondents from independent high schools are aware of student-agent working relationships. As more independent schools partner with commissioned agents, NACA urges for transparency and caution in order to ensure students’ interests are maintained throughout this practice.
