(From The New York Times) International student visa applications are undergoing more and more bottlenecks under Trump administration policy, raising concerns among college officials who see a threat to the diversity and enrichment of their campuses. Last year, education officials reported an increase in security checks and visa denials among international students seeking education in U.S. colleges and universities. One university official reported more than 160 cases of student and scholar visa delays last year — a sharp rise the average 10-12 cases five years ago. "It's discourage, delay, deny," described David Ware, an immigration lawyer who works on student visas.
Additionally, the State Department has cracked down on international students who overstay their visas, issuing harsher penalties on violators. Education officials warn that slowdowns in processing applications and sharp increases in processing fees will limit career opportunities for international students.
