More #MeToo Fallout Hits HR

Aug 21, 2018, 8:49 PM

(from Forbes) With the #MeToo movement bringing greater visibility to workplace harassment, HR staff might anticipate increased reporting and complaints regarding on-the-job sexual harassment and assault. Not only must employers be vigilant in protecting women from male abusers, but many men feel more comfortable speaking up about being harassed themselves. Employers should also update policies and training to cover protected traits such as gender identity, sexual orientation, race, religion, disability and age.

Other harassment-related trends to expect:

  • More reporting options, including web platforms and hotlines in many workplaces.
  • Rethinking investigations, thanks in part to concerns about competencies and biases in internal investigations.
  • Changes in state and local laws favoring employee rights.
