(from Gallup.com) Nearly three-quarters (73 percent) of U.S. teachers surveyed oppose the idea of training certain teachers and staff to carry guns in school buildings, according to a new Gallup survey. Teachers were surveyed March 5-12, less than a month after the February 12 shooting at a Florida high school that killed 17 people, most of them students. A strong majority (58 percent) of surveyed teachers also think that arming them and their colleagues would make their schools less safe, a notion bolstered by an incident last week when a teacher discharged a gun in class. More than four-fifths of surveyed teachers said they would not apply for the special training needed to carry a gun in school buildings.
