New App Estimates Real Cost of College

Nov 28, 2017, 2:01 PM

(from EdSurge) A new app in development called Edmit lets users compare how much students are paying at different colleges and universities, taking into account both financial and merit aid. Prospective college students enter their GPA, standardized test scores, ZIP code and current high school. Edmit then combines that with publicly available information about higher-ed institutions, such as data on pricing and financial aid, and estimates tuition for a given institution. Detractors say that existing college calculators already provide a similar service, but Edmit says its competitors take into account fewer data points and therefore are less accurate. The company has yet to sign agreements with any colleges. It is currently testing in private beta with students and parents.
