(from SHRM) September 18 signals the date that employers are required to use the new version of the Form I-9 for new hires only. Despite minimal changes, the new form includes certain updates to specific documents and the certification process for foreign nationals, among other adjustments. Storage and retention rules remain the same.
Employers can access a 15-page set of instructions for the form, along with a handbook for employers, on the website of the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), which first published the form in July.
