Nonprofit Boards Improved Effectiveness, Engagement During COVID, Research Shows

(From Associations Now) Over the past 18 months, school boards have found new and creative ways to connect and conduct their business in a virtual setting. Two studies released last month suggest those efforts have paid off in spades. A report by OnBoard, a maker of nonprofit management software, found that a solid majority of nonprofit leaders (79%) said their boards have improved effectiveness in the past 12 months, and 66% say they’ve seen improvements in collaboration. Nearly half (47%) say they’re spending more time talking about strategic issues.

There’s also evidence that virtual meetings are more efficient: A report by Harvard Business Review on boards’ digital transformation found that not only is attendance at board meetings 20% higher, but meetings are also 30% shorter. If boards are going to continue to improve, says OnBoard Chief Marketing Officer Rob Kunzler, they will need to continue streamlining online meetings and finding ways to increase collaboration.
