There's fundraising potential in millennial alumni, parents and other members of independent school communities. The trick is reaching them — which requires "becom[ing] part of their digital landscape," according to Todd Wagner, founder of Charity Network. The for-profit company aims to build on Wagner's financial success in the video streaming industry by creating global online auctions, broadcast content, and videos and commercials for nonprofit organizations targeting millennial donors. While relationship-based "mega donors" give the biggest gifts to educational institutions, nonprofits must reach smaller, younger donors as well. Charity Network keeps 20 percent of the funds it raises.
