Chances continue to dim for new overtime rules that would make more workers eligible for overtime. In the latest blow to regulations released by the Obama administration last May, and then blocked in November, the Department of Labor has asked an appeals court to give it until June 1 to file a brief seeking to revive the rules, which would have made workers earning up to $47,476 per year eligible for overtime (the current threshold is $23,660). It's believed that DOL "lacks the appetite to carry on with litigation" under the new administration, which has been slow to appoint key leaders in many federal agencies.
