Pediatricians Recommend Playtime

(from Brookings) Research in brain science, social development, toxic stress and academic achievement all point to the critical importance of play in children’s routine experience. Recess time has dropped 30 percent while test preparation has risen 29 percent in recent years, with even some kindergarten classrooms having little or no time for play or choice time. "Play is not frivolous; it is brain building," according to doctors in a Pediatrics article released last week. They say it is a key conduit for executive function skills of memory, attention, impulse control and flexibility.
